New galaxy, new aliens
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: BioWare
Also available on: PlayStation 4, PC
The next game after Mass Effect 3 is set in the Andromeda Galaxy instead of the Milky Way. There is no Commander Shepherd here, instead it features a brother and sister called Ryder, they are pathfinders tasked with finding new hospitable planets for the travelling huge ships of various species to settle down on and make new homes and new lives. Once you land on a planet you have various missions to do before people or aliens can move down to the planet to live on, some of these include clearing hostile enemies or fixing air purification and setting down nodes.
Like the original series this one has multiple enemies and main factions to deal with like returning species such as Krogans and Salarians. Each ship carrying their species docks with the main ark hovering in space, where you can buy new weapons or armour or take up more missions and side quest. You can recruit squad-mates like in the previous games and can use and upgrade powers and weapons too. The game is quite large but it would have been better if we could choose which planets to terraform.
Multiplayer returns here, and it is much improved due to only 7 waves of enemies now instead of 11. The powers are all more smoothly executed and it is easier to tell which types effect certain enemies or what powers can combine. Buying weapon or item packs is better also and there are a lot more available. If it runs fine then it is smoother than ME3 multiplayer but this has sometimes very bad lag or crashing altogether.
Good points:
+Love the storyline of having to terraform planets to live on
+Being in a new galaxy opens up tons of potential
+Graphics are very good
+Returning species like Krogan and Salarians
+Combat feels better
+Multiplayer mode is fun and better than ME3 overall
Bad points:
-Not adding the DLC to finish the story is annoying
-Should have had random planets to terraform
-Should have had more planets to visit
-Multiplayer mode is sometimes laggy and crashes
-Updates were stopped including character packs for multiplayer
Grade: B+
A great addition to the Mass Effect universe. Would be good to continue this story someday...
I would like...
DLC to finish the story
Multiplayer updates
Turian ark DLC
Sequel
